Women Anglers of Minnesota celebrate 35 years of friendships, fishing and helping others
More than one-third of Minnesota is represented by members in Women Anglers of Minnesota (WAM), which is celebrating 35 years of friendship, fun and teaching the joy of fishing. With members in 30 of Minnesota’s 87 counties, Kristen Merwin, vice president and tournament chair, would like to re-energize WAM by pulling in members from the rest of the state.
“We hope to get new members interested,” Merwin said. Women Anglers was started in 1977 by seven ladies who wanted a way for women to fish together. It is the oldest active fishing organization for women in the United States....

Some even go so far as to say your close friends from high school won’t remain that way in the next four years — that your life-long best friends will be the ones you make in college.
I can’t say that’s entirely true for me. Actually, unless you had a particularly reclusive experience in high school or some overwhelming experience that required a fresh start, I would say that’s not true at all.
Granted, I’ve never been the type of person to join exclusive cliques. My best friends have been members of certain groups on their own, but for me they were separate. In that sense, I’ve been a floater. The same has ended up being true for my friendships...

The era of tight budgets and declining revenues has had at least one positive side effect: Its forced many public agencies to rethink their old fiefdom mentalities and focus on how they can partner to provide services in economical ways that dont overlap.
A survey of 2,000 social network users has given us a few home truths to think about.
For British people on social networks like Facebook and Badoo seem quite happy to lie about what they have done and who they have seen – and spend more time keeping their virtual life up-to-date than keeping up with real-life friendships.
Some people admit their online friendships are all about looking cool and interesting – with a third of us lying in order to look better.
Equally, a third of people admit they are more likely to speak to strangers over a social network compared to face-to-face, a third spend more time chatting with online friends than with offline friends,...
Women Want Small Economical, Men want Fast and Furious Cars
We have all heard the saying the need for speed and it seems when it comes to cars the classification between men and women are clear. The guys are looking at vehicles which are big, stand out and of course are fast. But, the ladies are looking at small imports that are fuel efficient and economical.
Many brands are looking at the models they have and are making changes that will appeal to both genders. The Volkswagen Beetle is a perfect example of the change that is being seen. In 2011, the VW came out with a new model that appealed to the guys as well as the gals and it was no longer...
A recent survey about online behaviour and safety of children across the country has revealed some startling facts. Findings of McAfee, a security solutions provider, show that of the total respondents surveyed, the city recorded the maximum percentage (36) of kids accessing internet through cyber cafes.
The survey was conducted in 10 cities including Pune and covered 500 kids in the age group of 8 to 13 years and 496 parents. Of the total city kids surveyed, 54 per cent had email accounts, 74 per cent were members of social networking sites and 12 per cent were part of online communities.
As far as sharing personal information online is concerned, around 52 per cent of the kids...
Having few friends may make you a flop on Facebook, but more isnt merrier when it comes to real life. At least, not for women.
Although the brain can effectively manage a network of 150, researchers say a small, devoted core of female friends – between two and four – appears to provide women with the greatest payoff in terms of stability, happiness and coping.
In fact, even in studies of baboons, primatologists find females who keep tight bonds with three same-sex companions are less prone to stress than those who cast a larger but shallower social net.
In the western world, we mistake more money as better; bigger houses as better; more friends as better. But the research...
SAN DIEGO–As more Americans opt for healthier diets that include fresh fruits and vegetables, new research presented at the Experimental Biology 2012 annual meeting reveals when price, waste and preparation time are considered, canned foods may offer a more affordable, convenient way to get needed-nutrients.
The study comes on the heels of a 2011 survey conducted on behalf of the Canned Food Alliance (CFA) that found US consumers underestimate the benefits of canned foods. In fact, nearly 40% of consumers surveyed said they think canned foods are less nutritious than frozen, and nearly 60% of those survey said they are not as nutritious as fresh foods.
For this study, researchers...
The Murdochs UK political friendships are backfiring on all concerned. Fresh revelations about the media moguls relationships have created new uncertainty over News Corps part ownership of UK satellite broadcaster BSkyB. They also have the potential to throw the UKs coalition government into a full-blown crisis.
